How To Find A Durable Shutter In Boston

Holly Perron

Recently, a previous customer reached out to one of our stores in Texas. The customer had their house wiped out by a tornado earlier this year, but the home’s Sunburst Polywood® plantation shutters held out.

The customer’s house required a complete rebuild due to damage, but there were just a couple of louvers damaged on a single shutter panel on one edge of their home. All of the other Polywood shutters in the home were in pristine condition! The customers are currently rebuilding their house, and soon, the Sunburst store in Texas will revisit the home to install the original shutters in their reconstructed home.

Most likely, your shutters won’t need to survive a tornado. But there are a few qualities to look for when selecting shutters in Boston that are durable and will add charm to your home for years to come.

*Disclaimer: Sunburst Shutters doesn’t guarantee that their our products will withstand a tornado or other natural disasters, but this is a good example of the durability and hardiness of our Polywood shutters. Read our lifetime limited warranty.

Strong Material

The number one quality to look for when shopping for a resilient window treatment is the material it’s made from and the manner in which it’s constructed. For wood shutters, look for something built from wood that’s both solid and lightweight. Both high-grade teak and basswood (the types of woods our Ovation® shutters are built with) meet this criteria.

When looking into engineered shutters, look for those constructed from a solid polymer like our Polywood® shutters. These shutters have more durability than composite shutters, which tend to show damage more easily due to their structure. Polywood shutters are also resistant to moisture, fire, and termites.

Expert Construction

The structure of a shutter has a key role in its sturdiness over time. The slats of Polywood shutters keep their perfect amount of “give” by using tension control pins. They also have stainless steel staples covered in epoxy which are incredibly hard to pull out. Polywood’s core is solid, and its joints are reinforced and glued to give tremendous sturdiness. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are the only five star wood shutter in the world and utilize two different types of joints: dowel joints and mortise and tenon joints, which adds sturdiness. We’re proud to be the only company that offers shutters built to last a lifetime.

Sunburst Shutters ensures that we take special consideration in the measuring, creation, and installation processes to give you beautiful custom shutters that match your windows perfectly.

Color That Keeps

You want shutters that will look brand-new decades after installation. Other composite shutters may discolor or fade over the years. Sunburst’s Polywood shutters won’t ever suffer from discoloration, due to a protective finish that protects from ultraviolet rays that causes fading. Our entire line of shutters are easy to keep clean by simply wiping with a dustrag.

Lifetime Warranty

When purchasing shutters or other window treatments, your warranty is another key component. When you’re in the market for a premier shutter, you would benefit from a warranty to guarantee your investment. Our Polywood shutters come with a limited lifetime warranty against any imperfections that might occur in materials, workmanship, paint finish, or installation. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are protected by a limited warranty which protects you from any defects.
